The Importance of Product Packaging
The first feature that will grab our attention in any product is packaging. Packaging is defined as the wrapping or material used to protect goods, however in marketing terms packaging resembles not just a container but rather how “captivating a design and shape can be to the human eye”. The key to successful packaging is mostly design. Design appeals to two of the five main senses; sight and touch. Packaging a product in other words is the core for a purchase decision, mostly if it looks good and feels good you want to buy it.
While a package should mainly appeal to the eye, it should also be sustainable, safe, reliable, protective and durable. Size, shape, and colour affect product display a great deal as well.
Take a little test the next time you go to the supermarket. Look around the shelves and notice what will appeal to you the most in terms of packaging. Are you willing to buy a product because it looks good? If your answer is yes then the essence of packaging would have truly served its purpose!
