Do you have too many or too little followers on social media? No matter what your answer is your success is not measured by your number of followers. Reading this phrase maybe well be shocking, but truly you should not rely solely on gaining followers; monitor engagement instead.

Truth is, in the business world, no one really cares how many followers you have gathered as your performance is measured otherwise. Although initially, social media platforms did count the number of tweets, likes, re-posts, follows and shares. Today, it’s a completely different ball game. Counting numbers has become vain.

There are 4 steps to measure the success of your brand and company as listed by social media experts.

1- Audit your social media channels separately and then perform analyses collectively. Social media channels will vary in results, so to measure accurately look at each one separately. Use analytics tools available of each of your platforms. Compare the results of one to another and to your previous posts. Once you have noted all your results down collectively compare your performance to past weekly and monthly performance. Keep in mind that your audience will change from one platform to another so scatter your posts accordingly depending on your niche market.

2- Let your goals and metrics meet. Develop realistic goals that meet your marketing needs and business objectives. They have to be attainable and easy to measure. The easier the measure, the better you can correct your mistakes and focus on what attracts viewers and what doesn’t.

3- Measure your ROI (return on investment) in terms of money and time. The time you invest in working on a post from start to end in as valuable if not more than money spent. Incur that in your measurements. Once you have reaped the results of your time and money, look back and see if it was worth it.

4- Make time to measure your progress. Set a schedule on a weekly basis and check what you have achieved with the span of a week. The results will be able to tell you if your message was weak or strong, depending on the reach and interactions made. Repeat what works and eliminate what doesn’t. Measure frequently as it is the only way to tell how successful your brand is on social media.

The key to social media success as shown is far from the number of followers; it is simply by measuring constantly many features.

So don’t be fooled by the numbers instead come up with a formula that makes every number count!
